I’m a huge fan of journaling. When I have my devotion time with the Lord each morning I take a few minutes to write in my journal. I love to look back and read what I’ve written about God’s faithfulness in my life.
Recently, I did that and I was blessed and encouraged as I read what I had written during a difficult time. It was a few years ago – about the time that the recession hit the US and my husband, like so many others, lost his job. Now this is a man who not only has worked since he was about 13 years old but he’s always had a couple of job offers in his pocket. He went into work and found out that big cuts were being made and his job was one of those cuts. He immediately began looking for another job but there was nothing to be found. He spent each day and week that followed out looking for another job. This went on for months. It was scary and exciting. We didn’t know how we were going to pay our bills. The money we had in savings covered our bills for awhile but soon it was all gone. The exciting part about this story is that God took over our finances and every bill was paid on time. Each month as bills came due, money came in. There was always enough to cover every expense and it was always a surprise as to where the money came from.
During that time, we began to fervently pray together – daily getting on our knees together and earnestly seeking the Lord, asking for daily provisions and for a job for my husband. What a blessed time it was! Not only did God provide for our daily needs but He also opened the door for a wonderful new job for my husband. He taught us much about His faithfulness to us, His ability to provide for all of our needs, and His blessing over those who truly seek Him.
Psalm 105 encourages us to tell others about the wonderful things that God has done for us because it will encourage others to continue to seek the Lord in all circumstances. Deuteronomy 4:9 says “Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.” When God does something in your life new, share it with someone – especially your children and grandchildren. You can help them to grow in their faith as they hear what God has taught you personally. Start journaling and when God answers a prayer or teaches you something new, write it down. Later you’ll be encouraged as you read over and are reminded of God’s faithfulness in your life over the years.
Make the most of your journey!
Molly
