The Gift and Responsibility of Communicating Through a Song

by Christwill Staff (Joy) on November 18, 2009

in Encouragement for Soloists

We all know what it feels like to be touched by a song – to hear lyrics that meet us right where we are in life. Songs can encourage us or challenge us; they can make us cry or make us smile. As singers who are choosing to use our gifts to glorify the Lord, the impact of music is even more powerful.

Whereas other singers may just be sharing their voices & personal reflections through song, those of us involved in music ministries are accountable to more than just ourselves. We are representing the Lord. With every song we sing & every action we take, we represent our Savior. This accountability holds true for all Christians but it is something about which singers should be particularly aware. Matthew 15: 8-9a (NIV) says “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain.” What a very powerful statement coming directly from Jesus. Singing a song is one thing but lending your voice to the cause of Christ is another. It is an amazing privilege, but with that privilege also comes a great responsibility.

Let us always be mindful that as Christians, our music is part of story that is much bigger than ourselves!

I read your blog and am in agreement one hundred percent. I know many who sing, but they are not committed to the songs they sing and the one they sing about. They just “SING” so to speak. I feel the same because God has given me a music ministry through our Church and I sing to his glory and to worship Him, not myself.
Your company, ChristWill, has helped me to do that very effectively and I Thank You and your Staff very much.

God Bless!

I just read your message about our responsibility as Christians who use music to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I firmly believe that unless we take the Gospel to Heart we cannot deliver the message that God want’s us to deliver. I believe it takes a lot of effort to remain faithful to the word of God so that when sing, we are not no just singing, but glorifying our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the work that was finished at the cross.
Thank you very much for the message. It has been very uplifting.
Now if only I could find some Christmas Music with a Gospel Feel to it, I would be grateful as I am scheduled to sing for our Seniors Christmas Celebration on December 8, 2009.
God Bless You and Your Staff,
I am truly blessed that I found your site on the internet.

Thanks for sharing this. Your words are what I try to live daily and share as a worship leader and psalmist. I could not have put it any better.

Thankyou for sharing this. I love to minister in song. I believe that when I sing I am glorifing the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the one who gave me this precious gift and I am to use it for His honor and glory. May God be praised.
